THE IMPORTANCE OF WEDDING VIDEOGRAPHY

Congratulations, you're engaged! The wedding planning has now begun and you have a busy time ahead of you, getting everything perfect for your special day! With so many decisions to make... Where to have your wedding? What dress, shoes, photographer etc?... And, should you invest in a wedding videographer?

1. WHY IS WEDDING VIDEOGRAPHY GETTING MORE IMPORTANT?

Wedding videography has become increasingly important because it offers a dynamic way to capture the emotions and moments of your wedding day. While photography is still a cherished tradition, videography allows the couples to relive their wedding day with every movement, sound and the ability to capture vows, speeches and atmosphere of the event. Weddings are the most important days of your life. You spend months planning and preparing for it and there's no better way to look back on your magical day with a video that captures moments you may not see in a photo. For example, a photo of your guests laughing at your reception. With a photo, you can only see. However, with a video, you understand why they are laughing and the meaning behind it, which gives you a chance to be a part of that moment, that you may have missed. A video captures the entirety of that point in time.

2. MY PHOTOGRAPHER CAN CAPTURE THE DAY PERFECTLY WELL!

Yes, but to some extent. Photos will always be a tradition, I always recommend to my clients, even those considering not to have a photographer, to have one. BUT if a picture speaks a thousand words then imagine what a film can do? While a photographer captures a moment in time, a videographer brings those moments back to life and allows you to relive your wedding day. You should have a photographer but you cannot compare photo to video when it comes to capturing moments and emotions in real time on film.

For me it's about capturing a story and I'm less interested in capturing the details (like the rings, shoes, flowers for instance) that's the photographers role. I am there to tell a story of your special day, so I concentrate on identifying and capturing that element to give you much more than a wedding film but the story of your day.

3. I JUST CAN'T AFFORD IT - VIDEOGRAPHY IS A LUXURY.

While you THINK there maybe a good reason not to have a videographer... for every objection, I can reasonably and logically argue against it. "I just can't afford it, videography is a luxury!" More to the point, you don't THINK you can afford it. But let's take a look at some of the other areas you've allocated your budget. You have the photographer but you're also thinking of having a photo booth. You've chosen the meal options for your guests and the tables are decorate beautifully but you still think you need favours (very 90's) How about a sweet cart or an ice-cream van? All lovely extras but all eat away (excuse the pun) at your budget and could be used for other investments. Photo and video should be something you consider seriously at the start of the planning stages to avoid disappointment. Videography should not be regarded as an add-on or luxury item.

4. I'LL NEVER WATCH MY WEDDING FILM!

"I will never watch my wedding film!"... Say's nobody ever! OR "I'm too shy to be filmed and I would feel awkward all day, so why should I have one?!" Every videographer should be discreet at all times and not noticed as much as possible. Not having a videographer is today's bride's biggest regret.

5. A KEEPSAKE FOR YOUR FUTURE CHILDREN

If you plan on having children in the future, or if you have them before you get married, having a film of your wedding day will for sure be something for them to treasure and watch back in years to come.

TIP: GO ONE STEP FURTHER AND MAKE YOUR WEDDING AN 'UN-PLUGGED WEDDING'

Ask your family, friends and guests to turn off their phones, iPads, cameras during the ceremony, speeches. This means they can stay in the moment, your professionals can do their job without people getting in the way and there won’t be any social media posts of your wedding day found online before you’ve seen them first!
